Escape from LA!!

What a start!   Slow ride to Manhattan Beach…The waves were crashing hard and I could not stop grinning as we wheeled along the beach path

Walking with Mark Hansen to wheel dip

Wheels dipped (and sand covered)

Loved the wheel dip with my new friends

Front:  Alan, Stuart, Steve, Jodie, Maggie, Jeff
Middle:  Judd, Jeff, Jim, John, Marie, Carol, Tanny, Barb, Odie, Alex, Terry
Back:  Bill, Jens, Rich, John, Olaf, Me, Greg

And then….

Inside  TIP.   There are a lot of stop lights and pot holes in LA between the ocean and 40 miles inland when we picked up a great bike trail for 20 miles along a canal.  I think I put in a summer worth of clipping in and out of my pedals.  Also noteworthy.  The RV graveyard along East Del Amo blvd. and nearly losing my saddlebag when the rough road overcame my Velcro.

Following John through the orange groves

Rode through some gorgeous orange groves near Riverside.  I offered to pay for the 25 lb bag of oranges if someone would carry it up out final five mile climb.   No takers.
Route profile for our first day

That final climb was tough.  See where it looks like a wall around mile 75?  It felt like a wall.  (H/T Coach Clayton for the endless intervals this spring.   They came in handy …)

Really happy to be doing this.
